In this business, and in our market, there are many salespeople who will take advantage of potential clients by pushing products that do not 'fit' the proposed development, not suggesting potential project options available, or overcharging for desired amenities because they are not a 'standard package item'.
As a design-based company, we view each project as a unique creation with its own assets, limitations and possibilities. There are certain project elements that will work and others that will not given your specific situation. As designers, it is incumbent upon us to suggest the elements that work and eliminate those that do not. Likewise, there are many unique options that may interest you, which you may have seen either in a magazine or on television (such as chair lounges, exquisite waterfalls, or in-water stone veneers). Many other contractors view these as a nuisance that keeps them from moving on to the next job, and therefore price them so high it typically discourages you from selecting that amenity. At J. Brownlee Design we view these options as the element that takes a very nice job and makes it spectacular. We desire to install these amenities, and price them fairly in order to keep them as viable solutions.
Additionally, when we design a plan, we always carefully consider all aspects of the development through the design. Because of this fact, you will not be hit by any 'hidden charges' or specific preclusions. Many pool-only, or landscape-only companies think only of the pool or landscape development itself, but by thinking through the entire property development, we work to address any issues that may arise, such as drainage concerns, grading issues, screening of unwanted views, landscaping focal points, and more.
Finally, as designers, it is our belief that every decision made has a purpose, or a reason. Nothing is random or without order – even if that order is subliminal. It is our goal to inform you of the 'why', or the reason that each and every pertinent decision is made – from both a design and construction standpoint.
